eng lab 103 II

I think it's important to have a clear idea of how an academic integrity pledge should be composed, and it's benefitial to us, as students, because we will be aware of what is required to make it through college life in an honest way that it will also serve us as an example of how we should act for the rest of our lives. And it's also important that we learn how to share these values with our peers.

Julius Ceasar

I think both speeches are similar in pathos wise, because they both get really emotional and they get to the people, making them believe what they are saying and try to get them to their side. And people actually do, for example when Brutus talked, they thought that Caesar died for a good reason, so everything was fine, but then when Antony started talking about how good of a person Ceasar was, people just wanted revenge against the ones that killed him.

Talking about logos, i think that Antony has more proves about what he was saying because he could explain them the reasons why he was a good person, and even showed them his will, and everything that he was leaving to them. But Brutus didn't have any proves to say that Ceasar was ambitious, he just said that he was and that's why he deserved to die.

About ethos, at the beginning Brutus' speech had a lot of moral credibility, because people thought that was an honorable man, so that's why they should trust him. But then after Ceaser's speech, they realized that they were actually against Ceasar's death, because he didn't deserve it.

eng lab 103

From this English lab class and in a student’s perspective, I would like to improve my ability of writing and reading at the same time. As in my case, English is not my first language, it would mean a lot to me if I could accomplish this goal, because it will not only help me in my English class, but also in the rest of my classes in my entire college and also in my personal life.

Writing is not something that I like really much, but I thing that this class can help me understand the actual meaning of doing it, and see it from a different perspective, which I think it could be very interesting. It can give it a meaning and maybe I will start writing just for a pleasure, as a way of getting things out, like I’ve heard so many people that do that, just to feel better and express themselves this way.

I know that is not an easy job, and that it will take a lot work from my part, during classes and also off classes, but I think that if I give my best effort I will be able to have a significant improvement in what I’m working on, and therefore, at the end of the semester, see this class as an actual success for what I was looking for at taking it. And I could also use some help from my classmates and professor, in making this possible.

Punctuation

"Punctuation as the basting that holds the fabric of language in shape". I totally agree with the author in this and many other quotes of her essay. I think punctuation is what actually gives meaning to any reading, is what helps us, as readers, to understand it better, and in an accurate way. A reading with an incorrect punctuation can change the whole meaning of it, and it can lose it's purpose.

Language makes reality

"Language not only has the ability to allocate political power for all of us as a society, but also is the means and the medium by which we construct and understand oursleves as individuals, as coherents creatures, and also as members of a culture, a cohesive unit".
This means that language can be everything that people need to be connected with each other, and for the entire world to become just one. Is not anything we can touch or feel, but it is more important that many of the things we actually can, because it can change it all around, everything can be improved by the correct use of language.
It is important to the author's argument because he talks about how language has a huge power, that can be used for good or for bad, but is up to people to decide how to use it.
