Resolving Conflict Assignment Topic
In my essay I'm going to talk about the two ways that are the most popular for college students to get intimacy with one another: dating and hooking up. I'm going to give the cons and pros of each one, and why do I think people choose to do either one. I'm also going to talk about how things have changed, from our parents' time to nowadays. My essay is going to be specific to these situations for college students.

Section 3: courting, dating or just hooking up. For inquiry.
As a college student I strongly agree with authors Grime and English. Things have changed since our parents’ college days and it doesn’t seem that is a change for good. Dating is no longer seen as it used to, is no longer what most guys and some girls look for, at least in college. They don’t go out on dates anymore. As English said in her article: “The dinner-and-a-movie date is all but dead. Today, campus social life centers around skimpy outfits and strong drinks”. I think one of the reasons is because college students think that they have an entire life after college to look for a serious relationship, so, why waste your time now in committing to one person, if you can just have a good time by hooking up with as many as you want?
I keep thinking that guys are more interested in hooking up than girls are. Guys feel much cooler when they hook up with many girls, and think that they look better to their friends, and they probably do, but is not the same situation for girls. The first thing that a girl will damage if she hooks up with many different guys, is her reputation, they way guys and other girls will think about her. There are many girls that don’t really care about it, because they say that they are just enjoying life and doing whatever they feel like doing, and probably after college they are going to move back home, and no one there is going to know what they did or didn’t during their college life. Girls are also more likely to get hurt, because as English said, they are the ones that usually develop feelings for the other one.
Of course there are still some people that believe in the “old fashion” dating thing. Those are the ones that are probably going to have a more healthy relationship life as they get older, because once you get used to doing something, normally you stick to it, because it is really hard to change it. These people that still believe in dating, and are involved in a serious relationship are normally more mentally stable. They don’t have to go from person to person looking for some fun, but they just found their happiness in that given person they are with. So, there is still some hope that college students could realize the benefits of dating and make it as common in quotidian life as it used to be, as Grimes said in her article: “A culture only lasts as long as people are willing to live it”.

Favorite Song
I actually have many favorite songs, and they are changing throughout the time. But there are some that stay with me for a longer time, one of these is Patience, from Guns n' Roses. The song talks about how a couple need to have some patience and wait until they can be together. I like because I can relate that to every aspect of my life. I think that we need patience if we want to accomplish important things during life. There is absolutely no reason to rush anything, and I believe that patience is a great virtue. I don't have much, so, that's probably why I admire so much the ones that do have it.

Persepolis
I think Satrapi made her point of explaining how was life for them during this hard period, and everything that they, as citizens, had to go through. She explains how she was feeling during that time, and how she wanted to change everything by becoming a prophet. I think she was able to explain through her graphics what was the national tragedy about, but at least in the part that we got to read, it didn't say much about polital aspects.
I think Persepolis actually gained a lot by the use of black-and-white, it made me feel that it was appropiate it for the topic that she is talking about, and also the time period that is being talked. They are simple drawings, nothing really fancy, but she did a good job in making them so specific that we can get exactly what she is trying to tell us.
From the story i chose the frame in which she is reading her grandmother what are the rules that she is going to propose when she becomes a prophet. The author is being depicted as when she was a little girl and wanted to change the entire situation that her country was going through. The emotion that is being conveyed in this image is a mix of sadness and hope. Because is a sad situation the one that they are going through, but she keeps the hope that things can change, and that she can be the one in charge of making that happen. The text added to the picture is just an explanation of what she is reading to her grandmother, the things that she is going to do when she becomes a prophet. This picture exhibits sincerity from the little girl, because she is talking from the bottom of her heart, how does she feel about what is going on, and how she really wants to make it go away. The figure of this stage that remains stationary is the grandmother, since she is just seated listening to what her grandaughter has to tell her; and the one the one that implies action is the girl, that is trying to explain her thoughts. The purpose of this is to make sure that readers understand who is the one with the power in that frame, and why is everything turning around her in the story. I think there is no lack of sense nor realism. I consider it a very realistic image that tells us the entire purpose of the girl, and that fits perfectly with the rest of the story.

Editorial Cartoon

This cartoon is making fun of the way that cell phones are so essential in nowadays, that people actually prefers to be talking on the cell phone instead of talking to people around them. I think that is something that the use of cell phones is getting stronger year by year. Even kids have cell phones now, and some people are losing the ability to talk face to face and it can get worse with the advanced technology world that we live in. The invention of more developed cell phones is a threat to personal communication between people. Even in business now, people don't meet personally but they have long distance conferences using cell phones that can be used with videos too. But it is just the world we are living in and everyone is used to it, the use of cell phones will just continue to grow.
Across the Universe
The Strawberry Scene from "Across the Universe" illustrates how real things of life can be expressed by the use of abstracts symbols and colors. The strawberries used by him represent the blood spread out during the war, and it's a way of expressing the frustration of seeing something that you don't like and not being able to do anything about it to improve it and make it better. It is also representing the issues of life and relationships. The song goes along with the clip, and the way the strawberries are used then as bombs also demostrates the abstract use of the artist who demostrate his feeling by the use of his creativity.
